Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments (quizzes). Each assignment (quiz) will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

<p>This module provides you with an overview of topics related to human anatomy as well as medical imaging so you can appreciate the structural organisation of the human body and the imaging technologies used to scan it. It will cover anatomical principles in relation to major anatomical sites: thorax (lungs and heart), brain, abdomen and pelvis. The module will also cover the following imaging modalities: Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance (MR), Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and ultrasound. The module covers the theory and practice of anatomy and medical imaging, with a broad understanding of the whole process of probing signal interaction with a biological tissue.</p>

Medical Imaging and Anatomy

State what imaging modality has been used to acquire a medical image based on.

Understand the essential concepts of medical imaging.

Understand how the human body is organized and the anatomy of major anatomical sites.

Demonstrate an understanding of the physical and mathematical principles/mechanisms of medical image including instrumentation, signal processing, data acquisition, data storage and data representation.

Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between tissues, organs and system.

Apply knowledge of normal anatomy to locate and identify structures on medical images derived from common medical imaging techniques.
