Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments (quizzes). Each assignment (quiz) will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

<p>In this module you will learn about automotive propulsion systems and the engineering principles governing the operation of automotive powertrain units. You will consider both the traditional internal combustion (IC) engine powertrain and electrified automotive powertrains as well as power drivetrain systems. For IC engines you will study a range of fundamentals and be introduced to engine testing methods. For electrified powertrains you will cover: pure electric and hybrid electric and fuel cell systems, including: powertrain components, their characterisation, interconnection, and their control.</p>

Automotive Propulsion Systems

Have an awareness of the current legal requirements concerning automotive emissions and the use of alternative fuels and alternative energy source for electricity generation to promote sustainable development.

Select various engine parameters for optimum performance of powertrain systems such as fuel injection system, intake system and exhaust system for internal combustion engine.

Apply a range of workshop and laboratory practical skills to aid the research and development of engine systems and processes and be able to manipulate, sort and evaluate data using scientific methods and to work with technical uncertainty.

Have a systematic study of principles that underpin automotive powertrain system design and performance analysis.
