EnABLE group exercises will offer formative assessment and feedback in a range of ways. Informal peer to peer feedback will be promoted within groups and between groups at the end of the exercise. In addition, facilitators and experts will offer feedback on interim performance on planning and construction exercises. Verbal feedback will also be available as part of the competition or presentation expected at the end of the exercise.

CAD/CAM in-class test under exam conditions.The student should demonstrate a proficient understanding of the application of 3-D CAD to design industry inspired components and CAM system to produce a part program and simulate the manufacture process.Closed book, in person.

Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments (quizzes). Each assignment (quiz) will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

<p>In this module you will be introduced to the major classes of manufacturing systems, from jobbing to mass production with consideration of relevant production technology issues and requirements for systems from design through to production and control. You will focus on the interface between product development stages from design, to manufacturing and inspection, and the dependency to each other. The implications for product specification and design are considered and reinforced through your study of examples involving a practical problem-based approach. Emphasis will be given to aspects such as, design to production along with quantity forecasting implications and the significance of inspection and quality within a production system.</p>

Work as a member of a team to provide a formal report on the complete process from product/artefact definition through to manufacture, production and quality implications.

Work as an effective team member to generate and present a solution to an engineering challenge.

Have an appreciation of the major classes of manufacturing system, their operating characteristics, equipment requirements and the associated economic implications (including design for economic manufacture).

Define a product through modelling in 3D CAD and simulating its manufacture with a computer-aided manufacturing software package whilst identifying the production and quality implications.

Have a broad appreciation of the operational facets of a manufacturing enterprise and the roles of the engineer/technologist in each of these and their interdependency.

State and describe appropriate manufacturing system, production engineering and quality control requirements for typical products.
