Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments (quizzes). Each assignment (quiz) will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

CFD written assignment that covers generating, testing, validating and results’ evaluation a CFD model.

<p>This module will focus on engineering systems that involve thermal and fluid transport. By extending your knowledge and understanding of the thermofluids principles (i.e., Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer), the module will allow you to gain the ability to incorporate these principles in the design and analysis of industrial thermofluid systems and processes, e.g., pumps, fans, compressors, heat exchangers, turbines, fluid distribution networks, production scale heat dissipation, and waste heat utilization. By solving various complex fluid flow and heat transfer problems in industrial applications, you will also gain an invaluable experience of using an appropriate software of this type to equip you with the skills of executing accurate and cost-effective Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. </p>

Industrial Applications of Thermofluids

Coherent and detailed knowledge and understanding of the thermofluids science concepts and principles employed in the design of various industrial thermofluids components and utilized in industrial thermofluid processes and systems.

Systematic and detailed knowledge and understanding of the theoretical basis of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), modelling approaches, appropriate settings and boundary conditions, and solution techniques employed in numerous industrial applications.

Apply scientific and mathematical thermofluid principles to the design and analysis of industrial thermofluid systems and processes such as pipe/duct flows, expansion and compression processes, heat engines, refrigerators, fans, blowers, compressors, and pumps under various operating conditions. 

Initiate and carry out accurate and robust CFD analyses to solve different complex fluid flow and heat transfer problems in industrial applications and provide critical analyses of results.

Gain critical awareness of the measurement and Instrumentation techniques for thermal and fluid processes.

Respond accurately and concisely with suitably selected methods, assumptions and calculations to a range of thermofluid systems and processes.
