Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments (quizzes). Each assignment (quiz) will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

Formal report including engineering drawings.

<p>To enable you to develop knowledge, understanding and application of a wide range of common elements of Mechanical Design. You will focus on a selected but essential range of mechanical elements commonly found as part of assemblies and sub-assemblies in mechanical design. It enables you to understand their function and application in context so you can correctly evaluate and select such elements. In this module you will be primarily studio and workshop based and although supported through a series of lectures, much of your learning will be case based within a studio environment and supported through online e-learning resources for self-paced learning. The module will further provide you with with thorough practical examples, by which you will critically appraise and reverse engineer for enhancement, existing products, assemblies and sub-assemblies.</p>

Advanced Elements of Mechanical Design

Gain systematic understanding of a wide range of applications of various mechanical elements and devices.

Have detailed knowledge of the available range of mechanical elements and devices used in the design of mechanical systems as outlined in the module syllabus.

Gain understanding of the economic and performance constraints of mechanical elements and devices. 

Systematically select by process of elimination suitable mechanical devices to be incorporated within a mechanical system and propose alternative solutions using alternative configurations.

Reverse engineer a mechanical system whilst synthesising the design of the system with alternative mechanical elements and devices.
