This module will give you the opportunity to critically consider how social workers can apply research, theory and knowledge gained from sociology, psychology, human growth and development to social work practice. You will study a range of social work interventions and how these can be critically applied in practice. You will have the opportunity to develop key skills which will enhance your confidence in being a research minded professional. 
Social work practice relies fundamentally on the application of the best knowledge and understanding available to all aspects of intervention, in the interests of people who use services. It therefore requires qualified practitioners who are both aware of available research, and have the skills to assess, interpret and apply its insights effectively; that is, practitioners who are ‘research-minded’.
This module will enable you to understand how social workers can critically apply research, theory and knowledge from sociology, psychology, health and human growth and development to social work practice situations. You will study a range of social work methods for intervention and develop your understanding of how these can be critically applied in practice. Lectures will provide you with formal knowledge in relation to social work methods and research mindedness and seminars will provide you with the opportunity to examine and evaluate social work methods in specific practice situations.
This module will provide you with underpinning knowledge that is required to meet the Chief Social Workers’ Knowledge and Skills Statements.

Critically apply and evaluate knowledge from a range of theories and models for social work intervention with individuals, families, groups and communities and the methods derived from them.

With guidance critically apply research, theory and knowledge from sociology, psychology, health and human growth and development to social work practice.
