You will have the opportunity to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to qualify as a stage 1 practice educator in accordance with the requirements of the Practice Educator Professional Standards. You will study theories around adult learning, and learn how to apply these practically through models of supervision and assessment methods, the design and planning of learning activities and the development of learning opportunities for students. You will also develop your ability to evaluate teaching methods, as well as your own supervision needs as a practice educator.
You must have 2 years’ experience as a qualified social worker and be prepared to supervise a social work student.
You will explore the theories around adult learning, evaluating your own learning and supervision needs as a practice educator. You will evaluate different teaching methods to facilitate the learning of student social workers. The course will enable you to explore how to develop learning opportunities for students and to evaluate the process of preparing and maintaining a successful placement. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to collate evidence and prepare reports to the required standard. You will support and practice educate a student on placement. 
It will provide you with evidence of Continuing Professional Development, required for continuing registration.

Analyse and collate relevant evidence to prepare reports to the required standard and in the required format.

Teach in a manner that promotes Anti-Oppressive Practice and ensures maximum opportunity for learning, discussion and challenge in line with the requirements of the Practice Educator Professional Standards.

Evaluate the process of preparing a successful learning opportunity in line with the requirements of the Practice Educator Professional Standards.

Critically appraise their ability to manage the assessment of students on placement in line with the Practice Educator Professional Standards.

Analyse and reflect on assessment frameworks, demonstrating an enhanced understanding of the types and purpose of assessment.

Critically reflect upon theories of adult learning with particular relevance to their student and themselves.
