<p>This module provides the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and understanding of acute and critical illness and traumatic injury. You will develop knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiological effects of the acute and critically unwell, and further develop your ability to assess, manage, and provide holistic care within an emergency setting. You will develop your understanding of how to formulate management plans to provide optimum care and an understanding of purpose of robust clinical decision-making through examination of current evidence and developments in this field of care.</p>

Standards of Proficiency . Students will be required to pass all elements of the assessment to gain credit of the module as required by the HCPC standards of proficiency (2022).

Assessment and Care of the Acute and Critically Ill

Illustrate how to apply decision making skills to inform differential diagnosis and defend your judgement. 

Critically understand disordered physiology in relation to the individual’s acute/critical illness.

Critically appraise the contribution of research and contemporary evidence base influencing the assessment, care and management of the individual presenting with a critical condition. 

Illustrate how to apply drug regimens safely in line with national medicines guidelines, and explore the principles of pharmacology.

Critically evaluate the use of specific management plans used to promote safe, competent practice in critical care.
