Formative assessments will be required in the form of plans of weekly seminar assignment worksheets, and through opportunities for students to submit preparatory plans for both elements of the summative assessment. Students will be required to submit preparatory plans via email to the module tutor within five days of the summative assignment submission dates as advertised in the module handbook.

<p>This module explores the so-called ‘Culture Wars’ and identity politics in modern societies. It will explore key concepts and political and sociological concepts, including race, ethnicity, nationalism and multiculturalism, and their intersectionality with gender, class, and sexuality. These will be applied to consider aspects of identity politics, and their historical and contemporary implications and impacts on representative democracy, civil society, media, and public debate. The module will explore critical ‘frontlines’ in the ‘culture wars’ such as Brexit, post-colonialism, the ‘Me Too’ movement, and religion in British society, as well developments in other countries such as The United States and Poland.</p>
