This module will be assessed both formatively and summatively, formative assessment will be set by the module leader and detailed in writing in the module handbook and on the VLE. This will include, tutor and self-assessed tasks and VLE based tests as well as opportunity to auscultate on a simulated part task trainer.

This module addresses one of the core skill areas of physiotherapy and helps to prepare you for your clinical practice placement. You will have the opportunity to build on the knowledge you developed in the first year foundation module and explore the fundamental basis of respiratory physiotherapy. This will help you to develop an integrated approach to physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients with respiratory and cardio-vascular conditions. 
In this module, your previous respiratory and cardiovascular knowledge will be developed and applied to offer a critical awareness of your role in this clinical field. This development will provide a solid foundation for the practice and evaluation of physiotherapy within primary and secondary health care settings, including critical care environments.
The module content delivery also encompasses the following key themes: • Development of manual skill, clinical reasoning and critical analysis • Understanding of the various models of health with application to physiotherapy • Health promotion and empowerment of clients • Integration of Interprofessional learning and inter-agency work within teaching and learning to reflect changing clinical practice • Development of skills to enable lifelong learning.

Compulsory for eligibility to apply for registration with the HCPC.
