Individual ‘academic’ blog post of 800 words relating to a contemporary health issue.

You will examine a range of health related topics in contemporary society in the context of culture, society and policy. Drawing on a range of perspectives, you will investigate health and identity, weight, media, risk, power relations within medical encounters and emerging new directions in health and medicine.
The module will enable students to critically examine a range of health related topics in contemporary society from cultural, social and political perspectives and to apply diverse theoretical approaches, for instance, Marxist, liberal, feminist, functionalist, political economy and post-structural. Students will learn how health and health related understandings and practices inform and intersect with identity in contemporary society and link with social change.
