This module provides the opportunity for you to research a topic of your choice in depth, as well as develop your research skills and research interests. Drawing on your chosen topic, you’ll critically explore the existing literature and theoretical ideas, and research methodology and methods, that is relevant. You’ll engage with issues of research project design, including choosing appropriate methodological approaches for your topic area, and developing and understanding of theoretical perspectives relevant to the discipline(s) in which the work is framed.
You’ll prepare a project report/ dissertation, based on your research project. This module enables you to develop a negotiated syllabus to develop a particular topic or subject interest that is not explicitly covered by a taught syllabus or to further develop an aspect of a taught syllabus. Throughout you’ll be supported by one-to-one supervision.

Identify, analyse and apply a range of relevant complex theoretical and methodological ideas appropriate for the topic area/ research study.

Critically interpret relevant academic literature.

Formulate a critical and coherent dissertation that conforms to academic criteria.

Critically discuss the methodological and theoretical underpinnings of social science research, specifically as applied to the student’s chosen topic.
