You will study the subject of behaviourism, which is useful if you intend to pursue a career in clinical or applied psychology. This includes the principles of behaviour analysis and the philosophy of behaviourism that you will apply to real life situations including the learning of new skills and reducing self-harm. You will be assessed through two written pieces of coursework (each worth 50% of module marks). One will focus on experimental and philosophical issues and the other will be based on applied behaviour analysis.
You will study Behaviour analysis which is an experimentally-based approach to the study of learning and behaviour that focuses upon identifying the environmental variables responsible for behaviour change. The philosophy underlying this approach is referred to as behaviourism. You will examine the principles which have been established by the experimental analysis of behaviour and will consider their application in a wide range of situations. You will also consider the implications of a contextualistic approach to the study of learning and behaviour.
