Through this practice module you’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the principles of effective perioperative patient care. This will involve working as part of the multidisciplinary team under the direct supervision of qualified clinical staff. You’ll also have the chance to develop and demonstrate your competence in undertaking the anaesthetic, scrub and circulating roles. Assessment will include coursework, in the form of a skills inventory and professional development portfolio.
 This module runs throughout the academic year and will involve you undertaking clinical work based learning in a perioperative environment in a NHS Trust or Private Hospital which the University has a placement agreement with. During this module you will develop the clinical skills which are appropriate for a foundation level ODP student, and demonstrate evidence of meeting the first stage of the Standards of Proficiency set by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
You will be required to demonstrate effective perioperative patient care and show understanding of peri- operative patient needs, which will involve working as part of the multidisciplinary team under the direct supervision of registered clinical staff. You will also develop and demonstrate competence in undertaking the anaesthetic, scrubbed and circulating roles under the direct supervision of clinical mentors. The clinical mentors along with other perioperative staff and the Practice Education Facilitator will provide feedback on your development during this module and provide support throughout your time in the practice environment. The clinical mentors will also be responsible for assessing your competence throughout the module.
