Assessment 1: Oral presentation/assessment

Students will identify and evaluate a range of published TESOL materials which are relevant to their own professional practice. They will present their findings in a presentation to the group in which they will discuss and demonstrate ways in which these materials could be modified or replaced.

This will be supported by a viva in which the student will place the materials in context and critically discuss the theoretical rationale for their design.

The design of a portfolio of original materials for a specific teaching and learning context appropriate to the individual’s professional environment.

<p>The module introduces you to the key principles in the design, adaptation and evaluation of materials in the field of TESOL. You will explore a range of published language-learning materials while also developing your knowledge of the theory behind materials design and evaluation. You will apply your learning and knowledge through the design and adaptation of materials for learners in a context relevant to your own professional practice.</p>

Designs a set of original materials for a specified teaching and learning context.

Critically engages with research and theory on materials design and evaluation for TESOL.

Critically evaluates a range of published TESOL materials for use by language learners.

Shows a critical awareness of the key principles and objectives in materials design and how these are realised in a specific context.

Is able to establish and justify criteria for the evaluation and design of TESOL materials.
