Assessment 1: Written plan

The student will present a discussion of their chosen policy and model of policy analysis. . The student will be given the opportunity to submit a 2 page outline of their assignment plan. Formative feedback will be provided on both the presentation and the draft outline.

Assessment 1: Written Assignment

The student will select a focus for the assignment, reflecting their interests in relation to relevant policy or public services reform. It may be related to an aspect of practice currently being developed. It should be written in the form of a critical analytical paper of 6000 words which is informed by and applies a tutor-approved model of policy analysis. The paper will review and reflect relevant literature and legislation associated with a policy agenda within a particular national setting It will also require consideration of the potential impact of policy and practice changes on stakeholders and how the practitioner can influence this.

<p>This module will encourage learners to critically examine the historical, political and legislative developments leading to current international, national and local policy agendas relevant to those working in education and other public services. Emphasis will be placed on the relationship between theoretical perspectives and aspects of practice in a range of contexts such as early years, youth work, teaching, learning and development, health care, community work, family support and social care. Participants will be expected to consider the impact of policy on delivering effective strategic and operational responses and services. Teaching and learning will be based on participants experiences in the field, organisational case studies, social policy and welfare theories and critical analysis of ongoing policy developments and influences such as welfare reform, social exclusion perspectives, surveillance and control, safeguarding and state-led public service provision. The diversity of culture and experience our students bring to the course is valued and encouraged; offering opportunities to share knowledge and different perspectives to illuminate and critique social policy agendas and discourses.</p>

Understands current social policy developments and drivers and demonstrates knowledge of historical, social, political and global contexts leading to current arrangements for welfare and service provision.
