Assessment 1: Written draft

Formative assessment will take the form of draft submissions for the summative portfolio typically comprising: written plans, reflections, comparisons, analyses, presentations outline or actual. Exact requirements will be provided in detail in the Assessment Brief for this module which can be found in the Module Handbook. You can expect to receive formative feedback, to inform your summative submission, in writing via the VLE or orally.

Assessment 1: Portfolio

You are to submit a portfolio of evidence (detailed in the Assessment Brief in the Module Handbook) that demonstrates your developing knowledge, skills and understanding of the pedagogic potential of practical skills for learners, the theories and practices that inform the pedagogic approach and approaches to inquiry that you have experienced in the module. You will receive written feedback and a mark that has been moderated and agreed by the course team.

Portfolio

In this module you will focus on exploring the educational and therapeutic potential of a practical skills curriculum, Field 2 of the Seven Fields of Practice. Your experience of Genius Loci: Holistic Inquiry will have shown how the signature crafts for a location become apparent and how working with material from a location can inform practices in education. You will undertake a range of craft activities and begin by taking materials from source. Over time, you will turn source materials into purposeful items. In the craft environment you will experience how materials/learner, tutor/learner and learner/learner interactions perform key pedagogic roles. You will explore some of Rudolf Steiner’s key educational insights for their potential to inform the child/student practical skills curriculum. You will continue to develop your academic skills as well as your understanding and experience of approaches to research by exploring some key concepts and developing your research vocabulary. You will conduct a small-scale inquiry into the pedagogic potential of a practical activity. During this module you will continue to experience PSTE first-hand by working on making your items of service.
