A 4500 essay that critically analyses the concepts of curriculum and teacher professionalism through evaluation of relevant published literature, to draw conclusions about what makes &#39;good teaching&#39;.

Written Assignment

This module will deepen your thinking in relation to ideas of curriculum: what is taught, how it is taught and why it is taught. You will explore elements of the hidden curriculum, including hierarchy, power, values, confidence, stereotypes and labelling. There is particular focus on how national and cultural values shape these constructs.
You will explore how a teachers’ role is constructed. What are teacher identities and how do these shape the role of teachers? Is teaching a professional activity? What are the ideas around this aspect? What is a reflexive/reflective teacher and how does this enhance professional development. What is a ‘good’ teacher?
There is one piece of assessment for you to complete. This is a 6,000 word assignment in which there is a critical analysis of the concepts of curriculum and teacher professionalism within society. You should include a consideration of the what makes effective teaching and learning using relevant educational research to support your discussion.
