Assessment 1: Written Assignment

A written assignment of 5000 words critically analysing how a guidance network has worked to support a client and the information sources used. This must be accompanied by a Client Information Resource Pack (equivalent to 1000 words) which will be presented as a fully indexed appendix.

Written Assignment

This module focuses on the networks and contexts in which guidance work is carried out. The module addresses underpinning theories of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG), how these tie in with models of one to one and group interaction and how guidance is addressed in various learning settings.
Underpinning theory relating to provision of opportunity and labour market information is also considered and evaluated. The module will encourage students to examine the relevance and efficiency of various guidance networks in supporting individual career planning. Students relate their understanding and awareness of guidance networks to an assignment where they analyse how a guidance network has supported an individual client, drawing on a range of resources.

Researches local and national labour market information using primary and secondary sources and critically evaluates its effectiveness in meeting client needs

Critically examines how models and approaches to guidance interventions are applied in practice and their relevance to the various contexts of guidance

Critically examines own ability to plan, implement and deliver guidance interventions and CEIAG programmes in practice

Evaluates and critically appraises the effectiveness of the various contexts of guidance and the networks that exist for guidance provision
