The student will produce an individual, written, critical, reflective report, which justifies their chosen approach (from task 1) and evaluates the effectiveness of their planning to meet individual learning needs and current policy and legislation on inclusion. The report will conclude with recommendations for the implementation of their proposed planning.

A written essay that critically explores pedagogic approaches and strategies for supporting
young children’s learning, in the context of current policy, legislation and research. You will
articulate your own argument about how issues of children’s individuality and their rights as
learners can be supported, and present a critical discussion that evaluates how different
pedagogic approaches address issues of assessment, inclusive practice and team working.

<p>This module will develop your understanding of how children’s learning can be effectively supported, including child-led approaches, play-based learning, and holistic approaches to ECEC practice. You will learn about the implications of the concept of inclusion, the principles of both medium and short term planning and a variety of perspectives on planning and teaching. Assessment will include an essay, worth 70% of your overall mark, that critically explores different pedagogic approaches to practice in supporting learning, and how these can impact on practice. You will also undertake a group presentation worth 30% of your module marks, in which you will discuss effective planning and delivery strategies.</p>
