A range of strategies will be employed:
• Tutorials and seminars to frame a specific question that can be investigated in a small-scale study and within a limited context • Peer seminars and group discussion to explore the suitability of different research methods, the validity of data and its possible interpretation• Four points of supervision contact

Assessment 1: Dissertation/Thesis/Design Thesis (Written)

Students will choose an area of interest to explore which is pertinent to education, teaching and learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage or Primary age range. They are required to frame a question or a title to use as the focus for a small scale research project, which they will implement in a school or EYFS setting. A rationale must be provided and an evaluation of research methods and ethical considerations clearly presented; students will undertake a literature review and a small scale field work. This will be detailed as will the tentative findings and suggestions for future practice and initiatives in a 10,000 word dissertation; which makes clear links between theory, recent larger scale research, policy and practice.

<p>This module will facilitate development of your knowledge, understanding and skills required in basic research, in order to enable you to explore through a small scale research project, a specific question of your choice related to teaching and learning in the EYFS or primary years. Your findings will be analysed critically with reference to published theory, policy and recent research and presented as your final assessment as a written dissertation.</p>
