Assessment 1: Written draft

For this module you are required to demonstrate your understanding of how a range of policy and legislative developments have contributed to our understanding of how the educational needs of children and young people with SEND can be addressed effectively and appropriately. You are required to consider SEND issues and debates in general, and also to focus on those associated with a specific SEND condition.
You will present an interim version of your podcast or blog for Task 1 to a group of peers for formative feedback.You will discuss a draft of your Task 2 (800 words.) report with your module tutor.

Assessment 1: Project Work

You will produce a podcast or blog to identify the key stakeholders in supporting children and young people with SEND, and to illustrate their roles, responsibilities and their relationships/communication with each other. You will analyse current policy related to multi-agency or partnership working and SEND.

You will write a critical report that analyses how current policy, legislation and codes of practice support the needs of a child with a specific SEND in an educational context, and their family. Your report should evaluate the use of policy documents and codes of practice in relation to how current policy and practice reflect theoretical perspectives regarding issues of disability, diversity and inclusion.

<p>You will study current understanding of SEND, and the impact of this on inclusion. You will examine the statutory and regulatory context for SEND equality and the implications for practice. You will investigate the needs arising from specific SEND conditions, and what this means for educational practice in a range of settings, including strategies for improving outcomes for pupils with SEND. You will explore how children and young people with SEND and their families are supported to engage with support services and the factors that may influence this partnership working.</p>
