Assessment 1: Written practice exercise

Prior to their school based training placement students will receive tutor feedback on a piece critical writing on a current educational issue (1000 words). Tutors will visit students during their school based training placements and provide feedback on the quality of their teaching and the development of their personal/professional development portfolios (PDP).

Trainees will carefully select a bundle of evidence from their e-portfolio to demonstrate progress in their professional practice, articulating how their developing knowledge, understanding and developing skills in setting high expectations, managing behaviour, classroom practice and professional behaviours has impacted on pupils’ learning. They will reflect on their overall progress and devise an action plan for further professional development during the second assessed teaching phase.

Portfolio

This module helps you to develop critical reflection, a personal philosophy and your professional practice as a teacher. It involves study of theories of child development, education and learning. It encourages evaluation and the critique of areas of educational debate, informed by theory, current research and policy.
This module requires you to initiate and develop a comprehensive personal progress review, demonstrated through the compilation of an online Personal Development Portfolio.
The module is practice based; you will undertake a six week assessed block of School-Based Training, involving planning, teaching and assessing children’s learning. You will develop your classroom and behaviour management skills and build your confidence as a teacher, focusing on creating a positive climate for learning and setting high expectations for pupils’ learning and behaviour. For assessment, you will critically evaluate how your developing knowledge and skills enabled you to impact on pupils’ learning and progress.
