Research paper on a pertinent subject related to Methods and Modelling and will assess the student’s knowledge and understanding of the technologies and techniques associated with Methods and Modelling in a wider context. Word count is indicative and does not include table of contents, figures, references and appendices.

<p>The development of a modern information system should be a disciplined exercise, utilising well-defined principles for good design and construction. This needs to acknowledge both bespoke development and package-integration as complementary parts of a project. This requires an understanding of contemporary architectures, scoping of functionality, methods for elaborating systems analysis into good designs, and control of projects to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables. The module aims to provide you with the knowledge and critical understanding of modern software and information systems (IS) development methods, covering model-centric methods and light (model-averse) methods, and to further develops skills in the principles and practice of good information systems architecture and design, using object-oriented approaches. In addition, you should develop an understanding of the principles and practice of project control, using iterative development approaches.</p>

Methods and Modelling

Critically evaluate contemporary methods for software development, including iterative methods.

Investigate current research topics in software and IS development methods and modelling. 

Demonstrate the application of method, design and management through the construction of a fully documented system specification developed in an appropriate modelling language and environment.

Apply the principles of contemporary architecture and design for information systems delivery.

Select, apply and appraise an appropriate method to the point of delivery of a bespoke software system.

Rationalise the principles for good information systems design, and contemporary approaches to delivering these.

Implement, with originality where appropriate, the findings from research for LO 4 in project work.

Critically evaluate good architectural and functional designs for an object-oriented system, according to established design principles and practices.
