Opportunity for formative assessment will be provided through the practical sessions. Work will be set and feedback will be provided on the students&#39; efforts. Model answers will be provided to certain exercises for comparison and evaluation. Students will be able to gain informal feedback on work in progress by taking it to the practical for their tutor to review. Students will also have the opportunity to self-asses their work to gain a greater understanding of the assessment process.

<p>In this module you will further develop your understanding of both ordinary and partial differential equations. You will explore a range of numerical methods and their solutions, including Euler’s methods and Matrix methods. You will also be introduced to elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic partial differential equations and their numerical solution methods.</p>

Numerical Analysis

Solve an ordinary differential equation numerically and evaluate the quality of its solution.

Critically evaluate and compare a range of appropriate methods used to solve different categories of ordinary and partial differential equations.

Understand how discretisation can be applied to solve ordinary and partial differential equations numerically.

Discretise a partial differential equation as a matrix problem, selecting the most appropriate form, and to critically analyse and solve the problem arising from the discretised form.
