The assessment for this module is a 2,500-research report on a practical, relevant (HRM or HRD) business topic. Students wishing to obtain Level 7 CIPD accreditation must pass this module.

<p>This module encompasses two dynamic aspects of people management – the need to understand  trends and challenges in business practice from a systematic perspective and the need to produce clear, evidence-based insights in order to inform organisational decision-making. You will learn to use reliable evidence to explore ‘real world’ issues, the kinds of problems and challenges you will face as a people manager. You will explore these issues from differing organisational contexts to reflect sectoral or industry-based differences as well as different professional (e.g. HRM/HRD) perspectives.  </p>

Using People Analytics in Business Practice

Develop and present a persuasive business report that includes a reflective account of what has been learned during the project and how this can be applied in the future and the limitations of data (availability, reliability, relevance, type, protection, etc.) in framing and informing decision-making.

Identify and articulate a clear business / HRM issue based on an organisational context / scenario for which HR / external data are available and that is of strategic relevance to the organisation

Draw realistic and appropriate conclusions and make recommendations to inform decisions-making based on consideration of the implications of these recommendations

Gather and analyse different types of data that are relevant to the chosen topic and strategic context of the organisation 

Locate people management issues conceptually and practically within HRM and practitioner literature, policy and regulatory contexts, i.e., to be able to analyse issues from different perspectives, demonstrating awareness of theoretical background and practical relevance
