Activities providing opportunities for formative assessment will generally be integrated into the teaching and learning process and apply to all components of summative assessment.  The nature of the formative assessment tasks used will be at the discretion of the tutor, to include for example, workshop exercises, quizzes, group discussions.

Assessment 1: Written Assignment

The assignment will consist of a written exercise which may be an essay, topic briefing, report writing, reflective learning journal, article critique, case note, statutory interpretation, or judgement 

Written Assignment

This module examines the various mechanisms established under international law in order to monitor the implementation of human rights. You will be introduced to the workings of the international human rights framework to get an insight view of the function of the treaty bodies, the Human Rights Council as well as the various Special Rapporteurs.
You will also explore the different bodies responsible for the prevention of torture under the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OP-CAT) as well as the role of both national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and civil society in this regard. The varying approaches to human rights in different regional contexts may also be considered.
