Activities providing opportunities for formative assessment will generally be integrated into the teaching and learning process and apply to all components of summative assessment.  The nature of the formative assessment tasks used will be at the discretion of the tutor, to include for example, workshop exercises, quizzes, group discussions.

<p>Liability in tort can be imposed for a diverse range of conduct extending from careless behaviour to intentionally harming a person’s, body or property or restraining their liberty.  The law of tort deals with the consequences of harm arising from road and industrial accidents, from defective products and the giving of careless financial advice.  Its central task is to decide when a loss remains with a victim and when it is shifted to the perpetrator of the harm.</p>

advise of the main defences to specific torts.

research and apply information from secondary and primary sources.

comprehend the role of policy considerations in judicial reasoning.

extract and analyse the ratio of relevant tort cases and apply those to other comparable cases.

understand the elements required to establish liability in the various torts studied.

analyse factual situations and identify which, if any, cause of action in tort may be available to a party concerned.

effectively communicate solutions to problems, arguments and analysis, in a variety of forms.

prepare a written analysis of a problem which analyses and identifies the appropriate tortious issues arising and reach a solution based on the application of the relevant law.

effectively deploy key techniques, concepts and principles of the law of tort outside the context in which they were first studied.
