Activities providing opportunities for formative assessment will generally be integrated into the teaching and learning process and apply to all components of summative assessment.  The nature of the formative assessment tasks used will be at the discretion of the tutor, to include for example, workshop exercises, quizzes, group discussions.

Assessment 1: Dissertation/Thesis/Design Thesis (Written)

Summative assessment is based 100% on the final project. The dissertation should be up to a  maximum of 5,000 words, excluding appendices.

Dissertation/Thesis/Design Thesis (Written)

Project topics chosen are wide ranging and students are encouraged to work in areas of particular personal interest, providing they are relevant to the objectives of the pathway. The module is delivered through a short introductory seminar programme and accompanied by a guided programme of self managed study. Students are assigned an individual supervisor to support the project work. The project differs from the dissertation by a shorter word length and primary research is recommended rather than compulsory.
The module aims:
To enable students to gain practical skills and have experience of the research process.
To allow students to demonstrate their ability to undertake a piece of work requiring an element of original enquiry, including secondary and possibly primary elements, the balance of which will vary depending on the individual project.
To allow students to display their initiative and develop their time management skills.
To develop students ability for critical thought and evaluation.

Management Project

Research literature to inform the project and its objectives.

Critically analyse the problem or situation with reference to the literature review, secondary data and if applicable any primary data collected.

Discuss and critically evaluate relevant literature within the context of the study.

Collect evidence or original data regarding the subject under investigation.

Produce clearly stated aims and objectives for the study.

Present firm conclusions and recommendations (as appropriate) demonstrating that the objectives set have been achieved.

Recognise and state any limitations of the data and/ or analysis.

Provide evidence on the use of initiative, time management and self expression.

Evaluate the subject matter featured in the study and justify its choice.
