Student will become familiar with business ethics as a type of applied ethics. As such, it is concerned with principles applied and actions taken in the workplace and the boardroom. At the same time, since business practice is inseparable from the rest of human life, Business Ethics has to take account of the well-being of human society and the natural environment.

The methods used to achieve the course objectives will include lectures, seminars, workshops and guest lecturers from industry where applicable. Supporting material will be made available through the University’s VLE.

Students will identify the foundations of individual ethics, morality and the art of making decisions ethically, the theoretical and practical issues of recognizing and responding to ethical dilemmas and will find the link between good ethics and good business.
The module will cover the nature, scope, principle concepts and issues of business ethics, concepts of Deontologist, Teleology, Altruism, Egoism, Legalism, Hedonism and Utilitarianism will be covered. The knowledge of ethical issues in business and society will enable students to take responsibility of business with concerns to the environment and to society.

A knowledge of underpinnings of governance of corporations and evolution of corporate governance.

An understanding of functioning and significance corporate boards and governance.

Comment on the evolution of corporate governance.
