Assessment 1: Portfolio (including examples)

The formative element of this module is ongoing. Each week students write and receive verbal feedback on their performance and understanding of the material, building towards the portfolios they submit for their summative assessments.
Students on journalism degrees, and those on other courses opting in to journalism modules, will work towards a formative practical skills passport of core journalism abilities. This consists of a skills audit logged via a checklist and a blog. The skills align with those set out by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council in their accreditation requirements. Skills developed in this module can count towards the passport, which can also form part of a student’s personal development portfolio.

<p>This module introduces you to a range of types and styles of journalistic writing. You will also be guided to develop transferable skills to write for a broad range of media formats. You will engage with key concepts related to the practice of writing and analyse material online, in magazines and newspapers and in broadcasts. Through regular writing activities you will develop and hone your writing skills.</p>
