Formative assessment will be by means of weekly tests on the previous week’s input and observation of performance, with appropriate feedback from the tutor.  The students will also initially use case studies to develop their knowledge and abilities. The exact nature of the case studies and tests will be at the discretion of the module tutor.

Written Assignment 

The purpose of this module is to introduce students to key areas of the legal aspects of business with a particular emphasis on the formation and operation of business contracts.  Relevant case law examples will be covered.  Students will also consider when liability in contract arises, the nature of obligations on both sides and the availability of remedies when a contract is not fulfilled.   
 Students will also understand the legal requirements of establishing businesses and the concept of a legal entity.

Prepare a critical written analysis of a problem which identifies relevant contract law principles

Understand the key elements of business law to support the analysis of simple contracts,  their formation terms, performance and discharge 

Understand and identify the distinguishing legal characteristics of the sole tradership, partnership and the incorporated company 

Identify and access primary legal sources, appreciating the extent of their importance and the significance of keeping up to date with change and potential changes

Identify the law crating functions and understand their importance to business organisations 

Prepare a critical written analysis of a problem which identifies issues of business personality and identify remedies and obligations appropriate to the circumstances

Analyse a case involving the application of contract law principles, extract the operative principles and apply them to comparable cases
