This module builds on knowledge and skills obtained at Foundation level and will develop your ability to understand and engage critically with a range of visual, oral and written contexts informing textiles and fashion, progressing towards increasingly independent learning. You will research, appraise and analyse cultural debates and critical conventions, and use these selectively to define and evaluate your own work within wider contexts.
This module aims to specifically generate a multifaceted understanding and appreciation of the historical, theoretical, socio-political, economic, ethical and environmental dimensions of the textile &amp; fashion disciplines. The module encourages debate surrounding sustainability, ethics and resources, alongside appropriate primary methods of research and investigation.
Lectures, seminars, and collaborative workshops will explore a relevant range of visual and cultural theories that stimulate discussion, develop your capacity for independent enquiry, creative concept development and to enable you to identify and assess implications for your own practice.
You will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding though academic and reflective responses chosen from a variety of critical writing styles that will prepare you for honours level study.
