– Preparation of a Cost Estimating and Planning report (including order of cost estimates and formal cost plan defined by NRM1).

<p>In this module, you will explore cost control and financial management strategies within the design and construction process and examine the process of setting, controlling and monitoring of cost / financial objectives during the project life cycle including the appraisal of building design in economic terms. You will be introduced to the construction cost management techniques for each stage of the design and construction process. The use of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) for construction cost management is also included in the module.</p>

be able to compare and contrast different methods of cost management techniques within the various phases of the design and construction process and the impact of using BIM technology

be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate, both in writing and orally, in a professional and unambiguous fashion, and to present illustrated presentation material/reports.

be able to use various cost information services (including online sources such as BCIS) in preparing cost estimates

be able to evaluate cost information and prepare budgets, use cost indices appropriately, prepare cost plans and cash-flow forecasts for construction projects in accordance with latest professional standards, such as New Rules of Measurement (NRM).
