Assessment 1: Portfolio

The module portfolio will consist of work produced for projects taking place within the module; to include all preparatory and finished work, as well as a ‘making of’ film documentary/showreel.

Portfolio

The module will concentrate on promoting an overvire of disciplined approaches to the breadth of contemporary practices in animation production. The focus is on exploration and experiment, in ideas, materials, styles and production processes, in order to provide a well-rounded experience and to broadly introduce approaches to animation practice. You will be encouraged to draw upon existing interests in order to begin assembling compelling narratives, as well as creating environments, storyboards and illustrations, or experimenting with new technologies and abstract foms of movement. You will develop your own unique visual language and in conjunction with adjacent modules  you will gain the technical skills to help your ideas take shape though illustration, 3D, film, stop-motion, and kinetic technologies. You will be helped to define your preferred area of interest early in the course, and you&#39;ll continue to develop your skills throughout. Strategies for developing visual awareness and conceptual thinking, and of selecting appropriate methods of production are central to this module. You will be introduced to current debates and issues within animation and associated disciplines in the visual arts, and to the ways in which animated artefacts affect audiences as well as being ‘read’ or interpreted in critical contexts.
