Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will

Critically assess the drug discovery, design, development and manufacture of medicines with reference to current practice.
2.
Critically appraise drug and formulation design strategies with reference to key principles, approaches and potential future developments in major therapeutic areas.
3.
Evaluate and make distinctions on all the stages involved in drug development and the methods used to ensure efficacy of medicines and biopharmaceuticals.
4.
Appreciate role of targeted therapies in future medicines.
5.
Debate how a drug’s key features impact its reactivity, action, physico-chemical, chemical compatibilities, degradation and stability.
6.
Critically appraise the benefits and challenges associated with drugs from biotechnology origins and future directions.
7.
Correlate pharmaceutical principles with a literature survey to propose viable formulations, to orally describe and defend the proposed product and development profile and to manufacture it.
