This module focuses on investigating people and the social structures they have created. The interactions of people with place are of fundamental importance to understanding the complex inter-relationships within society. In order to explore these variations instruction in analysis and interpretation of population and demographic data sources will be provided in the first part of the module. The influences of socio-economic, cultural and political characteristics are examined as well as investigating how inequalities pervade society. Inequalities in gender, race, health and education are all addressed as well as inter-generational issues.
Contemporary resource management, planning and decision-making requires an ability to access and interpret data covering the lives of ordinary people and the second part of the module focuses on these.
