Synopsis

The module comprises of a series of specialist workshops, incorporating both theoretical and practical aspects, in the more specialist forensic science disciplines not covered elsewhere in the course.

A series of workshops, incorporating lectures and practicals will be delivered by specialist in those areas.

Outline Syllabus

The module will comprise of a series of forensic science workshops, comprising of approximately 2-3 week sessions delivered by staff and external specialists. Topics will be selected from areas such as forensic anthropology, firearms, arson and explosives, bodily fluid identification, toxicology, e-forensics, blood stain pattern analysis, environmental forensics and document … For more content click the Read More button below. The module will also incorporate a mini-project based on a crime scenario with matching physical evidence. Students, working in small groups, will utilise skills and knowledge obtained throughout the course to evaluate, analyse the evidence and interpret their results. In addition to an individual report, students will be given the opportunity to give a group oral presentation where they will be expected to defend their approach to the work and critically assess their findings.

On successful completion of this module students will

be able to formulate a strategy and evaluate the scientific findings appropriately.

be able to demonstrate an ability to carry out the practical aspects of at least two forensic specialities.

be able to deliver and defend their strategy and scientific findings in an unambiguous and impartial manner.
