Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments (quizzes). Each assignment (quiz) will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

<p>This module introduces the engine systems and engineering principles governing the operation of automotive power units. The module considers the engine assembly, fuel supply, intake &amp; exhaust, super charging, and cooling systems of SI and CI engines. The combustion processes, flame propagation, detonation &amp; knocking phenomena, exhaust emissions, and methods for engine power management are studied in detail. Engine testing methods are presented.</p>

Engine Systems

Have an awareness of the current legal requirements concerning automotive emissions and the use of alternative fuels to promote sustainable development.

Apply a range of workshop and laboratory practical skills to aid the research and development of engine systems and processes and manipulate, sort and evaluate data using scientific methods and to work with technical uncertainty.

Have the ability to select various engine parameters for optimum performance of engine systems including fuel injection system, ECU, intake system and exhaust system.

Gain systematic study of thermo-fluid principles that underpin engine system design and performance analysis.
