Unseen, closed book - will assess student’s knowledge and understanding of theories and principles covering sound propagation, sound levels, sinusoid, frequency perception, loudness perception.

Assessment 3: Portfolio

This task requires each assignment group to capture a set of acoustic impulse responses (IRs) in a lecture room using various measurement techniques and perform necessary editing.

Assessment 4: Written Assignment

Using the room impulse responses acquired from the group work above, each student is required to analyse and evaluate the acoustic characteristics of the room using various objective parameters and write a technical report.

<p>In this module, you will gain a theoretical understanding of various psychoacoustics and room acoustics principles from the lectures (e.g. perception of frequency and loudness, auditory localization, spatial impression, room response and acoustic treatment, etc.). You will enhance your understanding further and develop practical skills to capture, measure and analyse acoustic signals during the lab sessions (e.g. capture and analysis of acoustic impulse responses, binaural synthesis, objective analyses of acoustic parameters, etc.). You will also develop MATLAB programming skills during the lab sessions.</p>
