Assessment 1: Other

Formative assessment will be provided in workshops to assist students in refining and developing ideas whilst clarifying their understanding of the content delivered in lectures. Specific guidance will also be provided to assist students in developing new skills. Opportunities will be provided for peer evaluation/idea development in a supportive environment.

Assessment 2: Presentation

20-minute individual demonstration of the new interface for music expression or production realised using a subset of the software and hardware explored in the module. The presentation will be supported by submission of the finished system.

Assessment 1: Presentation

This assessment task supports and scaffolds the development of a new interface for musical expression / production. The idea conveyed represents an alternative to the established interface paradigm. Two presentations are delivered at key points in the module and the ideas / concepts conveyed are critiqued by staff and students to help improve the overall outcome of the project. The total length of the presentations combined is 12 minutes.

Assessment 3: Written Assignment

A written report which outlines the evaluation of the realised new interface for music expression or production. The report is augmented with a series of figures to help illustrate the ideas conveyed and present the results of the evaluation approach adopted.

<p>This module focuses on the development and evaluation of New Interfaces for Musical Expression / Production (NIMEP). This is achieved by a presenting and critiquing a range of existing commercially available interface paradigms, input devices and academic literature. By exploring cutting edge technological developments, you will consider future interaction paradigms for audio engineering and music production. Following on from this, core principles of prototyping with a visual programming language, user-centred design and evaluation are considered. This background underpins the development and evaluation of a new interface for musical expression/production.</p>
