Assessment 1: Portfolio

Submit a portfolio in which five 400-word data analyses will be provided and discussed along with the rationale for the choice of analysis and interpretation of results. At least one should be quantitative in nature and at least one should be qualitative in nature.

In this module you will have the opportunity to acquire a critical understanding of the range of approaches to research in Psychology, including experimental, quasi-experimental, non-experimental and qualitative methods. You will also have the opportunity to develop the ability to define appropriate participants and groups, understand the purposes and limitations of specific research techniques,as well as how to apply appropriate statistical methods or qualitative analysis to data from various designs and interpret the results, using, appropriate methods of data collection and statistical tests or qualitative analysis.

Research and Analysis Skills in Psychology

Code, enter and analyse quantitative data (using a wide variety of inferential statistics) using IBM SPSS.

Demonstrate an understanding of how qualitative designs are used in psychology along with the analysis of qualitative data.

Demonstrate a comprehensive and critical understanding of the differences and similarities, advantages, limitations and appropriateness of various types of quantitative research methods and data analysis in psychology.

Demonstrate the use of appropriate methods of data collection and analysis in psychology.

Present an accurate and comprehensive Results section, addressing a variety of experimental hypotheses, and using a variety of appropriate analyses.

To present an analysis of qualitative data with a justification for the choice of analysis.
