This practice module provides the opportunity for you to develop more advanced skills and your understanding of patient needs and how to undertake effective perioperative patient care. You’ll have the chance to enhance and demonstrate your competence in undertaking the anaesthetic, scrub and post anaesthetic care roles under direct supervision of clinical mentors. 
During this module you will continue to develop the clinical skills you undertook in the foundation module and demonstrate competence appropriate for an intermediate level student/learner. This will be a further development in meeting the required Standards of Proficiency set by the Health and Care Professions Council, which all students/learners must achieve at the end of the course.

HCPC Standards of Proficiency (2018).

The assessment criteria employed requires students to demonstrate repeated, consistent, safe practice representative of the Health and Care Professions Council Standards of Proficiency (2018).

Implementation of Perioperative Practice (Placement/Work Based Learning 2)

Critique and apply underpinning knowledge of operating department practice. 

Safely and consistently perform the skills identified in the action plans as negotiated and discussed with the mentor.

Employ perioperative clinical skills within different areas of the perioperative environment.

Participate in the maintenance of anonymity and confidentiality.

Compare and contrast the aspects of perioperative practice used in the surgical and anaesthetic roles that also apply in practice within the post-anaesthetic care unit. 

Undertake reflection and self-evaluation in the critical evaluation of practical experiences.
