Student referral is not permitted – in agreement with the Pro Vice Chancellor.

HIM2007 - Contributing to Midwifery - Apprenticeship

<p>This practice-based module will provide you with the opportunity to develop and apply midwifery knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in a variety of clinical placements, whilst supported by a range of health professional practice supervisors. In addition to providing universal care for all women, their families and newborn infants, you’ll contribute to providing additional care for women and newborn infants with complications and challenges to family health. This will include public health, health protection, reproductive, medical and surgical conditions. The module will provide you with opportunities to progress towards achieving the proficiencies and standards required of a registered midwife.</p>

NMC (2018) Part 1: Standards framework for nursing and midwifery education
NMC (2018) Part 2: Standards for student supervision and assessment
NMC (2019) Part 3: Standards for pre-registration midwifery programmes (750 hours will contribute to the required 2300 curriculum hours in clinical practice over three years)
NMC (2019) Standards of proficiency for midwives.

Contributing to Midwifery Practice

Effectively collaborate with women and their families, health and social care colleagues and contribute to safe, accountable clinical practice.

Critically reflect on personal and others’ development needs and situations from practice.

Analyse the psychological, physical, cultural and spiritual factors that contribute to maternal, newborn and family complications.

Evidence progress towards the NMC (2019) Standards of proficiency for midwives and the NMC (2019) Standards for pre-registration midwifery programmes, including Articles 5, 40, 41 and 42 of the European Parliament Directive 2005/36/EC.

Appraise the role of the midwife in using evidence-informed decisions to assess, plan, implement and evaluate universal and additional antenatal, labour, birth, postnatal and neonatal care.
