<p>In this module you’ll study a range of neurodevelopmental conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Hearing Impairment, Social Communication Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). You’ll also study features of Language Disorder associated with neurodevelopmental conditions. Your theoretical knowledge will be applied to current approaches to assessment, differential diagnosis, intervention and management of service users across the lifespan, including the impact of individual and environmental factors and the use of inclusive communication (signing, picture symbols, communication devices). You’ll also explore the roles a Speech and Language Therapist undertakes within neurodevelopmental conditions.</p>

Requirements     Compulsory for eligibility to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Compulsory for eligibility to apply for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

Analyse and evaluate the impact of a person’s speech, language, communication and swallowing needs on their participation and wellbeing in everyday life and collaboratively construct a holistic service user led management plan. 

Critically review differential aetiological factors in neurodevelopmental conditions.

Critically evaluate and compare intervention approaches for a service user living with a specific neurodevelopmental condition to determine rationale for next step management. 

Identify and examine the emotional and psychological impact of speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties on service users and families and carers.

Critically appraise different intervention and management approaches working with speech, language and communication skills in relation to neurodevelopmental conditions.

Critically identify aetiological features of neurodevelopmental conditions and learning disabilities and diagnostic features of Language Disorder.
