The student will have continuous formative assessment opportunities during each PBE. He/she will receive indication at the mid-way point of the PBE from their clinical educator as to their level of performance. Weekly goals will be agreed between the student and clinical educator to guide ongoing development within the placement.

Practical Skills Assessment

Under the supervision of a clinical educator, you will undertake two five-week blocks of practice-based experience where you will have the opportunity to consolidate theoretical learning and further develop your clinical skills. You will have the chance to further develop your independent learning by reflecting on your own practice and identifying ways in which you can improve. For each five-week block you will be assessed in practice by the clinical educator on your professional conduct, level of practical skill, underpinning knowledge and the ability to work collaboratively.
This module provides you with 2 periods of supervised practice based experience (PBE) within the breadth of physiotherapy. You will be able to apply, integrate and build upon knowledge, physiotherapeutic techniques and skills including those of health promotion and empowerment that have been learnt as a result of earlier modules on the course, thus contributing to their understanding of care and management of patients.
Each PBE provides you with the opportunity to attain approximately 170 clinical based practice in hours.
This module provides you with opportunity to develop your knowledge, understanding and practical skills related to areas of physiotherapy practice through learning opportunities and assessments provided by a service based clinical educator in a supportive learning environment. This module also provides you with the opportunity to develop your skills of reflection, both “in” and “on” practice to support your ongoing learning.
Within each PBE a qualified and experienced practitioner in accordance with professional body recommendations will direct learning opportunities, management and supervision. You will also be supported by a named University tutor.

Practice Based Experience 6 and 7: Year 3

Demonstrate professional conduct and evidence of competency across the 3 key areas of clinical practice within PBE 6 and PBE 7. 

Critically appraise and demonstrate an understanding of the Physiotherapy management of patient care within PBE 6 and PBE 7.

Apply a critical understanding of the aetiology, pathology and clinical features of conditions treated within PBE 6 and PBE7 and be able to justify the clinical management of selected patients based upon a thorough assessment.

Identify and implement appropriate reflection strategies to take ownership of learning within PBE 6 and PBE 7.
