Assessment 1: Practical Skills Assessment

Students are assessed using the Bossers et al (2007) Competency Based Fieldwork Evaluation for Occupational Therapists in the following competencies:
          Practice Knowledge          Clinical Reasoning          Facilitating Change with a Practice Process          Professional Interactions and Responsibility          Communication          Professional Development          Performance Management
This competency-based framework enables progression through the practice placements to be explicitly mapped. This framework is used for all WYCOTE programmes.

Practice Assessment Form 

<p>You will have the opportunity to work with increasing independence by learning how to manage your time and prioritise your workload during a seven week placement within the NHS, social care or non-traditional settings. You will encounter clients with complex and challenging needs and contribute to the management of the service, working effectively as part of a team. Alongside a practice-based educator, you will be required to develop a learning contract to identify learning outcomes for your placement, during which you will be assessed on your performance.</p>

Compulsory for award of BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy.

Work collaboratively with client and colleagues from diverse and ethnic groups.

Evaluate the complexities of interprofessional working.


Critically evaluate the complexities and challenges of delivering client care within health, social care organisations, and third sector organisations.

Manage a small caseload within the placement setting to include planning, arranging, implementing and evaluating programmes.


Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary and interprofessional team.


Initiate, carry out and evaluate activities which promote the wider development of the placement environment.
