This module examines psychological and contemporary socio-cultural issues affecting childbearing women and their families. You will explore health and policy issues in relation to childbirth and parenting, through coursework involving a poster presentation. You will also identify psycho-social issues relevant to a woman you have met in clinical practice. Through written coursework you will explore these issues in relation to the role of the midwife in promoting and supporting rights and choices for individual childbearing women.
This module provides you with the opportunity to examine psychological, contemporary socio-cultural issues and introduce health and social policy issues in relation to normal childbirth and to explore the impact of these issues within the midwife / client relationship, with particular reference to the rights and choices of individuals.
