The module will explore questions of epistemology, sampling, data collection,approaches to data analysis, validity, reliability, and the uses of research in relationship to education. Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will

Critically understands various methodological approaches contextualising them to particular content of the course.

Knows about the relative strengths and weaknesses of selected research methods.
3.
Knows about the philosophical underpinnings of research and the relevance of them to project design.
4.
Develops a project design to research an issue relevant to education.
5.
Appraises the difference between valid and invalid research, and reliable and unreliable research.
6.
Critically evaluates the theoretical underpinnings of research, approaches, strategies, sampling, methods of data collection and approaches to data analysis.
