Assessment 2: Dissertation/Thesis/Design Thesis (Written)

Students will be assessed on the basis of the dissertation.
In this assignment the student will demonstrate the ability to carry out a research study related to a current work-related problem or contemporary issue.  The research study should incorporate evidence of critical engagement with relevant theory and a high level of evaluation, analysis and synthesis. It should present the findings clearly and comprehensively and demonstrate how it has enhanced professional practice.

The Proposal will provide a brief outline of the rationale, focus, research questions, and selection of methodology and methods for the Dissertation.

You will develop and deepen your knowledge and understanding of educational research. You will learn about traditions of educational research; positivism, interpretivism and action research and the strengths and challenges of carrying out research in these traditions.
You will then identify a particular research topic of relevance to you and your professional development to investigate more deeply. You will plan and carry out this research of a current work-related or contemporary issue or problem.  This will involve appropriate research design, and the interpretation and evaluation of findings. You will be encouraged to find ways of reporting your findings in such a way as to encourage dissemination.
